also, this whole deal of claiming historical figures for your own race is kind of bullshit anyway, y’know?
like, ok, that one religious group that believed that jesus was black, and then white people killed them for that
was jesus black? it’s incredibly unlikely for a couple reasons beyond the fact that he was repeatedly mentioned as being from nearby where he preached, like how, if there were something physically remarkable about him, that probably would’ve made its way into the gospels somehow?
but jesus sure as hell wasn’t white either
and still we have fucking white jesus in our churches
as for the egyptians, i mean, there’s basically no credible evidence suggesting they were any kind of european or any other kind of white. it’s almost certain at least a lot of them were black.
you know who else was black?
the mali, the songhay, the ghana, the.. countless other sub-saharan civilizations that i can’t name off the top of my head.. i mean it’s not like black people sat around doing nothing for five thousand years like most history textbooks would hae you infer. timbuktu was once the intellectual capital of the world! and nobody doubts those people were all black
so why the hell are we fighting over egypt?
as for other religious figures, i mean, abraham was from ur (probably), which is in modern-day iraq. moses was a levite, which.. well, idk specific things about hebrew ethnic groups, but, y’know, he was hebrew
it bears mentioning that most people in the old testament would probably get pulled aside by the tsa at the airport
oh hey moses married an ethiopian woman
that’s one black person and still zero white people
anyway i’m gonna give up now because i’m tired and i don’t actually wanna sift through three thousand years of history wondering when jewish people became white in the not-poc sense of the word and pretending i still know what the original point of this post was
Post with 1 note
so i started looking into the whole thing about whether or not the ancient egyptians were black or not
and the best answer i could turn up was “some of them were”
i mean really whenever i come across the debate it’s usually people pointing to certain examples of egyptians representing themself with black skin or “negroid” (is there a better word for that? because holy shit) characteristics
which, i mean, you could also find examples to prove that they were all arab and berber and various other kinds of not black
but geneticists seem to agree that there were a lot of different ethnic groups hanging out in egypt not caring about each others’ race! there were variations from person to person of course but nobody seems to have proof demonstrating that the egyptians all looked exactly the same, let alone demonstrating that they were any one particular race
apparently tutankhamun was black but cleopatra wasn’t?

Seriously, if we believe a 14 year old is too immature to know how to take a pill, do we really think she’s adult enough to handle an unwanted pregnancy?
The truth is that the age restriction is completely arbitrary, tied only to our puritanical comfort levels. And listen, I get it; I think it’s fair to say that most people are uncomfortable with the idea of a 14 year old having sex. But here’s the thing - access to Plan B isn’t about keeping a 14 year old from having sex - by the time she gets to the pharmacy, that ship has sailed - it’s about keeping a 14 year old who has already had sex from getting pregnant. And despite what urban legend (or past embarrassing FDA memos) may tell you, making emergency contraception more available is not more likely to make young teens have sex - it will just make them less likely to end up pregnant.
We can’t let our discomfort with teen sex trump young people’s right to sexual and reproductive health and we can’t continue to let politics trump science. If we care about young women’s health and bodily autonomy and integrity, we’ll drop all age restrictions from emergency contraception. Anything less isn’t just illogical - it’s immoral.
